Part of a trade with the quite talented (and impeccable dressed) of his character Percy. I absolutely love his design! It was really fun to work with.
I had originally intended to do something much simpler, but this is what you get when I'm up at 1:30 am drawing. XD
He looks more.....sinister in my version. More so than I had originally had in mind. Also, I may have made his beak longer than it's supposed to be. He looks kinda dragony in this. Again, I blame the late night drawing. He's actually supposed to be a rather amiable fellow.
On the plus side, I'm very pleased with how the colors turned out. Gives it a nice 3-D feel.
Percy belongs to
Oh yeah, and I got the lovely background color from
*instantly becomes his desktop* Graaaaaaahhhthecolouring!!1 Absolutely gorgeous. I love the balance between vibrancy and dull/saturated shades-- and you're right, the style of shading/highlights does offer a 3D look to it; the fact that he's overlapping the frame especially adds to that. Fantastic colour choice for the background, by the way. Not only is that my favourite colour of all (greenish blue), but it compliments Percy's autumny colours PERFECTLY.
He does look different in your style, certainly, but not at all erroneous. In fact, I like him even better in your style: there's so much personality in this, and the pose is simple, but very suitable. You got his expression JUST RIGHT, too, and the fact that you included the tail really shows some well-worth-it extra effort. Oh, and the fingers! Kudos for making sure to give him six! Also, while he may look more intimidating (to some extent) here, he still looks very friendly and nerdy, just like he should. Besides that, Percy can be very dangerous if he actually attacks/fights back, so a slightly intimidating look isn't a bad thing.
Anyway, all in all, this has some wonderful attention to detail and good taste. I'll be sure to get my side of the trade done, soon (the new desktop will help remind me, too)-- I just hope I do Kaaz as much justice as you've done for Percy.
Oh, I'm so glad you like it. ^^ This is quite the epic comment. Thank you! The background color was actually kind of an accident. The pattern I used was originally a lighter shade of blue, but I put it on top of the brown frame layer and it made that lovely peacock color. It does go quite well with his color scheme, if I do say so myself. Glad you don't mind how I made him look. I was going for a kind of calm expression, but it turned out looking kind of eviiil, mwahaha... But I'm glad you like it. I'm loving the six fingers. And that long claw. I definitely wouldn't want to pick a fight with him. Not that I would in the first place. Teehee, I'm flattered that I made it to your desktop.
oh mai, the detail on this fellow is absoultely fantastic...I mean the hair and the coat are wonderful looking not to mention the level of depth you manage to achieve using that shading... as well as how he is sorta popping out of the picture too! wonderful looking fellow too, I love how his eyes pop right out at you certianly a delightful, yet creepy fellow...something you excell at drawing!
I'd be more coherent, but that'd only be possible if I knew about this percy
